Privacy
Saturday Night Find has no accounts and nothing to log into, and it sets no cookie of its own. Nothing on the site follows one visitor across searches, or across visits. The server does read the network address Cloudflare passes it on every API request, so it can count requests per address and stop a flood; it stores none of that and forgets it within minutes. On a sketch page whose video is blocked in some countries, the page also asks the server which country Cloudflare placed the visitor in, so it can say the video will not play there rather than showing a player that refuses; that answer is read off the same request and stored nowhere. A theme choice — light or dark — is kept in the visitor's own browser and is never sent to the server at all.
The search log
A search made through the search box is written to a log recording six things: the text searched for, which search path answered it, the filters applied, the total number of matches, how long the search took, and when. It records no network address and no session identifier, so one visitor's searches cannot be told apart from another's. Rows older than twenty-four months are deleted each time the server starts up.
The log exists to find the searches that come back with nothing useful, so the search itself can be improved.
Page views
Page views are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookie and builds no profile that follows a visitor across other sites.
The site sits behind Cloudflare regardless of that. Cloudflare processes every visitor's network address to route the request and to filter out abusive traffic, the way any host in front of a website does — that happens whatever this site itself stores.
Video
Any page that lists a sketch with an official upload — the home page, a season page, a set of search results, or the sketch's own page — shows its thumbnail as soon as it loads, and each thumbnail is loaded from YouTube's own image host, so Google sees those requests before anyone has pressed play. Every page on this site, including this one, also opens a connection to that image host in advance, whether or not the page shows a thumbnail, because that is faster for the pages that do. Pressing play loads the video from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain, youtube-nocookie.com, and from that point the visit is covered by Google's privacy policy, not this site's.
